These graters are made by MOTOSHIGE, a small potter specializing in the manufacture of mortars and rasps since 1925. Based in the Iwami region, Shimane prefecture, in western Japan, MOTOSHIGE perpetuates the know-how of pottery historical Iwami-yaki of the region. Iwami-yaki is known for its rustic look and extra durable material.
The sharp porcelain ceramic pieces are integrated into the terracotta body, so this grater enables efficient grating without effort. This grater is especially ideal for grating wasabi, ginger, onions, radishes, tomatoes, daikon, apple, root vegetables, hard cheese while the grater itself can also be used as a serving plate. The deep reservoir can hold a fair amount of grated food and the base of the oroshi grater is lined with silicone which prevents slipping during use.
